Sunday Sewing Session

Sewing Sunday was happening here again today!!

I have finally finished the baby (who is now 1 and I should probably stop calling 'baby') quilt top!  Sooo excited!  It will go off in the mail to the quilter this week along with the Brick Quilt for Aussie Heroes.  Baby quilt was cut out while I was the size of a whale waiting around for baby to be born.  It was a great way to spend some time at Mum's.  Fabric from Spotlight, pattern is Two Square by Audrey and Maude.  I had to add 2 more rows to the bottom to make it long enough for a single bed but I am really pleased with how it has finished.  Can't wait to get it back from the quilter!

Next I needed to make a birthday present and a new big brother present and decided to make hats.

And finally there were a couple of new baby packs to put together.

I have finally bought the patterns for Christmas sewing and just need a trip to a fabric shop for supplies and I think that will keep me going for a while!

LOTS to share!!

LONG time between blog posts but I have been quietly working away on finishing a few things and cleaning up the sewing room.  Sad that I have no one to blame but myself for the mess (although Master 1 likes to 'help').  I have finally gotten around to sorting through my fabric stash and have boxed and labeled most of it.  It is still a work in progress.  Essentials for the process included cup of tea, label maker and plastic boxes.  LOVE The Reject Shop!

Rainbow of colours!
Master 6's house team for school is Topaz.  The MOTH thought that yellow streamers on the pram was a bit much and too embarrassing, so I sewed words onto shirts instead!  I did the lettering on the machine - not enough time to hand sew and had lots of lovely comments!

This is a mei tai baby carrier that I made last year to help with dropping off the kids at school.  Brilliant!!  To see how it works, click here.  I also used it when I went on the plane and found it great that I could have my hands free to grab my luggage and stuff.

Close up of feather stitching.

Finally finished the number wall hanging although I still haven't put it up on the wall yet!  I really enjoyed doing the feather stitching in the ditch for this one.  Made it a bit more interesting and I love to show off verigated cotton!

And of course I finished a whole pile of nappy wallets in some awesome new fabrics!  I have Australian animals, farm animals, frogs and jungle animals all up on my facebook page if anyone would like to purchase.

And that's about it for now.  Hopefully the tidying and sorting will continue and I can start on some new projects soon!

Post Office

I don't like going to our local post office.  The line up is ALWAYS to the door no matter what time you go there.  I try to never go with more than 1 child because it can be a long, boring wait.  Anyway, the reason I was there was to send a parcel of handmade goodies to a friend who had a baby a few weeks ago and to send off a little Mother's Day surprise.  I didn't have a chance to make something for Mum this year but will hopefully get round to it for next year.

Special parcel included a hexagon bag for each of the older girls, seahorse for the new baby boy and a nappy wallet for the busy Mum!  I am really enjoying creating gifts for friends and family, hope they enjoy them too!

The boys wall hanging has progressed quite well.  I have backed and quilted it and almost finished the hand sewing of the binding.  Will hopefully be able to share over the weekend.  Until then,

Parcels

So 2 of my friends had baby boys this week!  Yay!  I sent off one big parcel on Friday and just need to finish another nappy wallet to send off the other.  LOVE baby news!  Bit silly though, forgot to take a photo of all the handmade goodness!  Oh well.  No photos of any other finishes to share but I have been down to the shop and picked up some pellon and backing to finish the boys wall hanging.  It is on the lounge at the moment, patiently waiting till all the folding is finished and for Bones to come on tonight!

Just a quick post so I can get busy!

A Stack of Nappy Wallets

Well, I posted a photo of my handiwork on facebook and got a bit of interest so I decided to sew up a heap more and try to sell them.  They will be $30 including a travel size wipes, nappy sacks and anti-bacterial wipes.  These are my new go to present for friends having babies.

The only other sewing I've managed is to sew on velcro to the MOTH's work shirt pockets so his phone is easier to access!  I am hoping that this weekend I can cut more nappy wallets and start on the Advent Calender I want to finish before Christmas.

Away In A Manger

The blog has been quiet but I have not!  I finished this stitchery that Mum gave me for Christmas a few years ago.  Another one of those things that I kept putting off.  I actually enjoyed doing the hand embrodery and I LOVE the butons!

Still working on Nappy Wallets as I had a few requests so I have cut another 10-11 and have enough fabric for about another 16 (I think)!  And then I decided (because I just didn't have enough to do) that I should make a couple more peek-a-boo toy sacks for Christmas!  I certainly will be busy the next couple of weeks!  Better get to it!

Nappy Wallets

So I saw this Nappy Wallet Tutorial last year and thought what a great idea, I'll make some of those!  It's only taken 18 months or so!  Anyway, they are really easy and I have managed to cut and sew 4 of them in a couple of days - in between all the other house/children stuff that never ends.
I have claimed the purple one for myself because purple is my favourite colour.  These nappy wallets are big enough for a travel thing of wipes, nappy sacks, nappy and anti-bacterial wipes.  I have a few friends having babies soon and these are going to be the perfect present.  Any excuse to buy more fabric!!

Hats, dresses and other stuff!

Having a new baby in the house has seriously cut into my sewing time but he is soo cute and cuddly I don't really mind!  But I have been trying to get a few things done.  Master 5 was invited to twin girls birthday party and I thought they would love a new dress each.  It helps when the Cupcake Dress is so quick to put together!  I had the two plus another for a friend whipped up in only a couple of nights.

Both of the older boys have needed new hats for a while and a friend had a new baby so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to make some more!  I forgot to take a photo of the baby hat before sending it away on Friday.

I also finished the No Rules Blocks and put it together in a wall hanging for a friend's wedding recently.  I have forgotten to take a photo of that but might try to remember on the weekend to go around and take one.

The latest on  my finished list is something I have just finished and taken a photo of.  I have made a stocking for each member of our little family after seeing the pattern on the Kids Quilts website.  I think I made Master 5's and the MOTH's in 2007, Master 3 and mine in 2008 (from memory finishing them on Christmas Eve)! and have just finished our latest one's today.  Now that our little family is complete it's one more job I can cross off my list.

The list of things I want to make/sew seems to keep growing without much being crossed off!  I have picked up another Make It Perfect pattern for dresses and want to make some for next year's birthday girls as well as make some nappy wallets for me and a couple of friends.  And there's also all the Christmasy things that probably won't get done before Christmas!

Fabricolic

Hi, my name is Kristy and I'm a fabricolic.  I have enough fabric in my Fabricologists Resource Centre (fancy words for fabric stash) to last a lifetime but I can't help but buy more.  Saturday I added these to my collection
And to further my addiction, I spent today at Peggy and Bev's Place sewing and came home with this

(there is a dinosaur panel that goes with this, and some other nice fabrics that almost came home too) for the ABC Wall Hanging project I bought the pattern for 2 or 3 years ago.  The first step to dealing with my addiction is admitting I have one.  Well, I have an addiction to fabric, sewing, patterns, pretty threads, and more crafty stuff.  Sadly my 12 step program ends at Step 1 because I don't want to give up my addiction anytime soon!  The only way to deal with this is to promise to finish some of these projects before the end of the year.  Only time will tell!

Kristy

P.S  Have been quiet while Master 4 was ill, but will clean the house tonight so that Saturday and Sunday will be sewing days!
